which is better to choose for a safety helmet, FRP or ABS?

Now in many industries, the application of safety helmet is more extensive, because safety helmet is very important for head protection.  However, the safety helmet materials on the market are mainly divided into fiberglass, ABS and PE, among which fiberglass and ABS are the most popular materials.  Therefore, when buying safety helmet, it is difficult to choose fiberglass or ABS.

Focusing on this problem, Cheng Ge editor sorted out the difference between these two kinds of material safety helmet.

FRP, also known as FRP, is a fiber reinforced composite plastic, according to the difference of the composite materials used, can also be divided into glass fiber reinforced composite plastic (GFRP), carbon fiber reinforced composite plastic (CFRP), boron fiber reinforced composite plastic.  The safety helmet made of glass fiber reinforced plastic has the advantages of high strength, good heat resistance, good electrical insulation, but also has excellent acid resistance, water resistance and flame resistant, encounter pressure, will not easily deformation.

ABS is A combination of acrylonitrile (A), butadiene (B) and styrene (S), one of the five major plastics.  If the safety helmet is made of ABS, it is not only heat resistant, high surface hardness, size stability, good chemical resistance, and electrical insulation, temperature and humidity changes will not affect the safety helmet, and water, inorganic salts, alkali and acid and other substances will not react.

The above is the difference between FRP safety helmet and ABS. In fact, in life, we mainly decide according to the application environment of safety helmet.  For example, ABS safety helmet is not resistant to combustion and low temperature, but its toughness is good impact resistance, so it can not be used in some low temperature or combustion risk operating environment, only suitable for mining, machinery industry and other high impact strength, and normal temperature operating environment.  On the contrary, FRP safety helmet is more suitable for use in some special operation occasions, metallurgical high-temperature operation, oil field drilling, cold area construction and so on.

A Quick Guide to the Differences Between HDPE and ABS Shell Safety Helmets

Safety helmets are an essential safety PPE used in the workplace. They keep you safe by protecting your head from head injury or strong head impact caused by falling objects, fixed overhead obstructions, and electrical conductors.

The material used for the shell of the safety helmet must withstand stress due to

  1. Impact strength due to fall of a heavy object from above
  2. Compressive force due to entrapment of wearer in confined space
  3. Fall from working height

For safety helmet impact strength and compressive strength of the material is of prime importance. Other mechanical properties such as low density, high tensile, and flexural strength are also important. The material should also possess other properties such as electrical nonconductivity, withstanding working temperature, low water absorption, corrosion resistance, etc.

Materials that are commonly used for shell material are HDPE and ABS. This article will explain the differences between HDPE and ABS safety helmets so that you can choose the right one for your need.

HDPE vs ABS Safety Helmets &#; What&#;s The Difference? Why Choose One Over Another?

HDPE Safety Helmets are made from High-Density Polyethylene and are an extremely popular material for making helmets because it provides excellent strength and durability. It also offers good resistance to heat and chemicals. On the other hand, the ABS Safety Helmet is made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene which is a thermoplastic with good impact resistance and compression qualities. It is lighter than HDPE and is, therefore, easier to mold into complex shapes. This makes it ideal for making custom helmets.

ABS safety helmets are getting popularity in the market as they are extremely light weight and offers excellent comfort for the wearer. However, it is costlier than HDPE safety helmets due to higher material cost.
