"Transporting frack sand in hopper bottom trailers involves moving silica sand particles over long distances to deliver to hydraulic fracturing sites. The process demands precise attention to load handling, timing, and compliance with safety regulations."
Terry, I spoke with her a week ago and had the same question and here is how I understood it... Ok, keep in mind that the mileage is 216 miles one way.... Now, her quoted rate is $42.00 a ton. So, if you haul 25 tons at $42.00 a ton then the load pays $1050.00 divided by 216 miles comes out to $4.86. The same at 26 tons pays $1092.00 divided by 216 miles comes out to $5.05 a mile. so if that's the case then the 25-ton payload round trip rate is $2.43 a mile and the 26-ton payload round trip rate is $2.52 a mile. Hope that clears things up a little...
Now, I think that FRAC SAND haulers past experiences are beneficial to anyone that intends to haul this stuff.. for example, I can see that it's important to determine whether or not you're offloading into a storage tank or waiting to offload as they need the product. As mentioned above if you have to wait for them to offload as they need it then this ISN'T a good deal UNLESS the company is paying DEMURGE. If not then you're sitting for long periods and NOT getting paid.. and as the guy mentioned above... an 11-hour wait SUCKS!! I can say that these are my main questions, and I've NEVER hauled FRAC SAND.
1. Am I offloading into a storage tank or as they need the product?
2. What is the rate?.. per TON or per MILE?
3. What are the settlement terms? Are you responsible for paying me or the FRAC SAND company?
4. What are the loading/unloading hours on both ends?
5. What paperwork do you need before issuing payment? and how long do you process once you receive paperwork? Can I fax copies to you or do you need originals before settlement? do you offer direct deposit?
6. Is this a new shipper or have you done business with this supplier?
Now, the more and more I read about these FRAC SAND hauls I see that this may not be the thing I want to get involved with.. I've worked in the oil field before and it's time-consuming.. I pulled a vacuum bottle and I was ALWAYS on the clock from dispatch to the time I put the hoses back on the trailer... so I said all that to say, it seems that some FRAC SAND hauls are not that great and some are...
Understanding where and how you will offload the frack sand is critical. It could be into a storage tank or directly as needed. The efficiency of unloading can significantly impact your time and earnings.
Clarify whether you are being paid per ton or per mile. This understanding helps in calculating your potential earnings more accurately.
Know who is responsible for paying you—whether it's the shipping company or the frack sand company itself. Also, familiarize yourself with the required paperwork and payment processes. Questions like direct deposit availability and document submission methods are crucial.
Determining the operating hours for both loading and unloading at your pick-up and drop-off points will help you manage your time effectively.
Working with new shippers may entail risks, so understanding their reliability can affect your decision. Always check the company's history and feedback.
Frack sand hauling often involves wait times. If the company does not pay demurrage, long waiting could affect your earnings. Prior experience in the field can be valuable in assessing whether the job is worth taking.
