I'm looking at Stamford S0L2-G41 15kw alternator or a local guy that is selling a Marathon 30kw for around the same price. This is for a 15kw engine. What is the better of the two? I thought Marathon was USA made but I found out it isn't. The Stamford looks to be owned by Cummins.
I prefer Stamford but Marathon is fine. Have many of both that go the distance, tens of thousands of hours. I prefer the Stamford voltage regulator. The Marathon ones seem to fail quite often.
The no load losses will be ~twice as much with the 30 vs the 15. While it isn’t a huge amount, it will effect the fuel consumption some. No load losses might be around 5% ~ 10% for these generators.
Worst case say it’s 10%, that’s 2 hp vs 4 hp, all the time they running, even without load.

The 30kw Marathon will require some machining to adapt the #10 generator flywheel to the #6.5 engine flywheel. I can buy the Stamford bolt up ready to go. I am leaning to the Stamford now, plus is has a Cummins logo and I am a sucker for Cummins products.
Cummins has owned Stamford for quite some time. You will find Stamford gen heads inside most residential and commercial generator products. But they still sell them to whoever wants to buy one, also.
I bought a Stamford from a dealer out of Miami. 15kw head delivered for $. Couple hundred more than the places in GA but I wonder if those are even genuine Stamfords. I should have it in about 2 weeks and we'll see how this thing runs.
What's wrong with that old Lima head that's sitting there? I'd have paid to rebuild that one before buying a new one, myself.

It's a 3 phase head. Nothing wrong, works good if you are interested in it.
