Testers without cap...does it really matter?

Generally speaking, I typically purchase the 'retail' version of a fragrance just once. After that, I replace it with a tester and reuse the old cap. I also keep caps since many product lines utilize the same design. This means you can easily buy testers as long as you have one spare cap at home. To ensure cleanliness, use vodka, everclear, denatured alcohol, or window cleaner to wash the cap before reusing it.

Furthermore, several fragrances either have an integrated cap or are designed without a cap due to their bottle design. For example, a tester bottle of Bvlgari Black, Very Irresistible (for men), or Encre Noir is no different from the retail version, except it might have a sticker on it and come in a plain white box or unboxed. The sticker can be removed by gently rubbing it with a cloth sprayed with WD40 or RP7. These products are also excellent for polishing frosted glass bottles, though baby oil can serve the same purpose.

It's worth noting that some testers indeed come with caps. Into the Blue is an example. I purchase a lot of designer fragrances, and opting for testers and 30ml bottles has likely saved me thousands of dollars.

However, some tester bottles differ notably from their retail counterparts. For instance, the tester for Lalique Amethyst is quite unattractive compared to the beautifully crafted retail version. Therefore, always do your research. Sometimes a smaller retail bottle is more economical than a tester. For example, a 30ml bottle of Obsession costs me around $20, while a larger tester is over $30. Given that I rotate many fragrances and find them potent, a larger bottle is often unnecessary. In many cases, a 7.5ml or 10ml mini can last me an entire season.

If you love the design of a bottle and think it worthy of display, don't opt for the tester. However, if the bottle design doesn't appeal to you, purchasing a tester might be the better option. Personally, I find the Azzaro Pour Homme bottle unattractive, so I always choose the tester.

Does leaving the cap off a bottle affect the juice in any way?

The cap just protects the sprayer, keeps it from accidental damage or unintentional spraying etc.

This. Many fragrances don't even have caps. Terre d'Hermes and its flankers have twist tops that are open from above. The A*Men series incorporate the sprayer into the rubber flask. Some Claiborne scents, like Curve and its flankers or Lucky No. 6, come with a clip that locks the sprayer to prevent accidental spraying.
