Polyester felt is a synthetic needle punched felt made from polyester fibers. The polyester fibers are needle punched with a special felting needle, one with small barbs on the end. These barbs pull the polyester into itself, locking together to create a fabric.
Polyester felt is offered in a wide variety of densities and thicknesses to meet your needs. It offers a low cost alternative to wool, and can be used in many industrial and commercial applications. Monarch Textiles manufactures needle punched polyester felt products to meet your specifications.
Polyester felt products offer a range of benefits. Not only is polyester felt less expensive than wool felt, but needle punched polyester felt also provides resistance to organic acids, mildew, bleaches, and other oxidizing agents that could damage the material.

Our 1/8″ polyester felt may be used to protect fabric in areas that are too large or too rough for anti-chafe tape. It may be used to cover a gusset plate with a lot of rivets, for example, or often it is used on the entire leading edge wrap to hide small dents or imperfections. It also offers some impact protection to fabric by having a softer surface behind it.
If you are using a lot of felt, such as covering the entire leading edge, you will need to order some extra EkoBond. The felt will need to be fully saturated with EkoBond. Typically, a full leading edge wrap will need about 1 qt. of EkoBond per wing, and 4 yards of felt is used to do an 18″ wide leading edge on a cub size aircraft.
Felt is sold in a linear yard (72″ wide), similar to the fabric. Our felt is priced per linear yard, not square yard. Dimensions below are for shipping calculations and represent the folded dimensions per yard.
