Benefits and cautions of a covered dog kennel

Whether you already have a dog, or are considering adding one to your family, the biggest question is &#;Where are we going to keep it?&#; Not everyone has forty acres of pasture and woods for a dog to explore and roam. For those who live in suburban areas, or near busy freeways, keeping a dog is a bit more tricky. If you have a smaller house, the difficulty is compounded.

You can find more information on our web, so please take a look.

Of course, you could fence in your yard. However, if you have nice flower gardens that the dog could dig up, or plants that could be hazardous to his health, that becomes less of an option. You need not give up on the idea of a canine friend, though. Have you ever considered an outdoor kennel?

Outdoor kennels are built of sturdy chain link. They may have a wood frame, and one back wall of wood. There may be a doghouse type enclosure in the back, with the front, sides, and run of chain link. An outdoor kennel protects your dog from the elements, yet is open to fresh air. On a cold rainy night your dog can cozy up inside the kennel, and on a hot day he can rest in the shade, cooled by a breeze.

A dog cage is only a den for a dog to retreat to, but a kennel has room for a dog to move around and play with his toys. Puzzle toys which require your dog to think hard are applauded by vets and dog experts. Dogs, like people, often become more worn-out by mental exercise than physical exercise, though both are critical.

As a word of caution, the abuse of a kennel can bring some negative effects. With a nice space for you dog to stay in, you may be tempted to leave him there longer than you should. Just because a space is healthy and safe doesn&#;t mean you can forget about him. Your dog should take regular walks to get his energy out. Take him for a run or a long walk. He&#;ll be happier and healthier, and so will you.

If you have only one dog, he could get lonely. Dogs are social animals who need to see humans and other people. Consider inviting a fellow dog owner to bring their pal and visit. Your doggy buddies can hang out and play together.

If you feel at a loss as to how you are going to keep a dog, consider an outdoor kennel. By proper use, interspaced with good exercise and playtime, your dog will be happy and healthy in his lovely kennel.

Kennel Remodel

We are excited to share that we are remodeling 24 of the dog kennels at our shelter! We are saying goodbye to our current outdated chain link and cement kennels and moving forward to the modern era of Midmark kennels. These upgrades will help provide comfort, safety, and care for our beloved canine friends.

Our current chain link and sheet metal kennels have served their time, but we are committed to providing the highest standard of care for our adoptables and these new kennels will enhance their overall living environment!

Midmark kennels are state-of-the-art and are designed with durability and functionality in mind and will be a game-changer for our dogs! These are benefits that will directly impact the health and happiness of our residents. Since they have smooth surfaces and accessible corners, they are easier to clean which will significantly improve hygiene standards within our shelter. Cleanliness is paramount in preventing the spread of diseases and ensuring the well-being of our furry companions.

But we are most excited about the privacy the new kennels will have! Each kennel will have opaque doors, which will give the dogs much needed privacy, and our staff will still be able to easily monitor the animals! The new doors will provide a sense of security and sanctuary for our dogs. By reducing feelings of fear, anxiety, and stress, we create an atmosphere where our animals can thrive.

These enhancements not only align with our commitment to fear-free practices but also contribute to a safer, more efficient process. By investing in the welfare of our animals, we&#;re laying the foundation for a brighter, more compassionate future.

As we embark on this transformative journey, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our supporters, volunteers, fosters and donors who make initiatives like this possible. Together, we are shaping a world where every animal is cherished, valued, and given the opportunity to live their best life!

Stay tuned for more updates on our remodeling progress and join us as we continue to make a difference.
