Ball Valves vs Gate Valves

Gate Valves

If you are looking for more details, kindly visit Yulin Machinery.

Gate valves, also called sluice valves, are more likely to be found in older houses. Their mechanism usually involves a knob that, when turned, lowers or raises an internal gate or wedge to control the water flow rate. The familiar outdoor spigot for a garden hose is a good example of a gate valve.

Gate valves allow you to control the rate of the flow of water, from a slow trickle to a full flow, but don&#;t provide an immediate stop. They are usually controlled by a manual handwheel that requires more than a 360-degree turn to change the gate&#;s position.

Tip: Some areas require the use of gate valves placed before and after the water meter in certain systems. This makes it easier for your water department to swap out the meter if needed.

Why are Ball Valves not standard? : r/Plumbing

New-ish homeowner here,

prior to owning a home i had no idea or care for how or why valves, toilets, plumbing in general worked, now learning the very very simple basics of plumbing and valves and how everything works i realize 3 of the 4 of the problems i have fixed so far with plumbing have to do with replacing old gate valves where the rubber washer no longer works.

This becomes quite an easy fix once you figure it out and i just want to reiterate that am not a professional plumber or apprentice & just recently learned the basics of plumbing, but i find myself asking myself a question over and over;

For more wellhead ball screw (bso) gate valve wholesaleinformation, please contact us. We will provide professional answers.

WHY ON EARTH are these valves not all ball valves??

appliance shut off valves, outdoor faucets/ hose bibs etc...

What are the possible reasons that a stop/gate valve would be standard over ball valves for these ? the price is nominally more expensive, they are much more efficient, never seem to break or have issues, and have far less moving parts.

What possible reason is there for a toilet shut off valve to be a gate valve ? i understand maybe wanting to control the flow rate? but ball valves can do that as well.

seems like an industry practice to put a shitty piece of equipment in place of a readily available better one in order to have to come "fix" something that has a much better lower maintenance substitute that could be used and interchanged very easily.

am i completely wrong or missing something obvious? let me know because it seems ball valves are superior in just about every way to gate valves and should be the standard used in homes.
