Your hoses are also located close to other parts in the engine compartment and may become worn due to possible friction with these components. Loose Hose Couplings &#; Just as your hoses can become damaged throughout normal use of your car, the couplings which connect your hoses together may begin to loosen, resulting in loss of fluid. This is caused by vibrations, sudden bumps or by the pressure of the system itself. 

Slipped Drive Belt &#; The drive belt on the power steering pump slipping off is a common problem associated with power steering. This will completely prevent your car from changing direction as there is nothing driving the pump resulting in the loss of fluid pressure. You can notice this pretty easily when you hear a squealing sound when you turn the steering wheel into a sharp turn. 

Worn Out Pump &#; As your car gets older, so does the power steering pump. The seals and internal parts of the pump break down and lead to loss of fluid pressure. This can be diagnosed through loss of steering ease and through squealing sounds.

Power Steering Fluid leak from Steering box Siena 1.6! Help Needed

Hi All,
This weekend I discovered that the Power steering was hard, similar to manual steering.
On checking found that the power steering reservoir was empty.

Got fluid from nearby HP pump and filled it, steering was smooth again. Now, why did it drain out ?

When I moved the car next day, there was a pool of oil below and the power steering level had gone down.

Told a nearby mechanic to check if some rubber tube or pipe is leaking because I had moved the car to new place and RATS Had a field day in the car, biting everything. Even engine light was on continuously.

So the mechanic checked below and told that the leakage is from the steering box and the steering column seal was gone.

Now, Is the diagnostics correct ? Is there a seal which is separately available ? Or the whole steering box needs to be replaced.

Car: Fiat Siena 1.6 100v

Kava Automobiles is quoting 21K for new replacement and suggested repair is possible at around 6K.

Is the repair a reliable solution ? Am in a fix now !!
