1. (40CrMnMo7) steel is a plastic mold steel delivered in its pre-hardened state. For better machinability, 1. (40CrMnMoS8-6) can be preferred. 1. (40CrMnMo7) material is suitable for nitriding, induction hardening, and flame hardening. The only difference between 1. (40CrMnMo7) and 1. materials is the presence of sulfur in 1. (40CrMnMoS8-6). Due to the sulfur content, 1. (40CrMnMoS8-6) plastic mold steel is not suitable for patterning.

For molds requiring uniform hardness throughout the core and products demanding better surface brightness, 1. (40CrMnNiMo8-6-4) should be selected.
